Marianne Musgrove is South Australia's Max Fatchen Fellow

Congratulations to current May Gibbs Trust fellow, Marianne Musgrove, who has won the Max Fatchen Fellowship.

This is a biennial award for a children’s writer in the SA Premier’s Awards for Literature, announced at Writers’ Week during the Adelaide Festival of Arts. The subject of Marianne's award proposal was her story about a twelve-year old South Sea Islander boy, who is kidnapped and taken to Australia to work as an indentured labourer in the sugar cane fields of Queensland. This is also the focus of her May Gibbs Trust fellowship, which is almost complete, and enabled the first part of her historical research. Thanks to the Max Fatchen Fellowship, Marianne will be travelling to Vanuatu to complete her research
