Our fellows are Winners!

Congratulations to Judith Rossell for Withering-by-Sea, her intriguing and compelling novel for younger readers, which was named an Honour Book in this year's Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards.

Judith developed the story and illustrations as part of her Brisbane-based fellowship in 2013; In fact, she opted for Brisbane in order to spend time in the Botanic Gardens, creating sketches for the conservatory of the Hotel Majestic where Withering-by-Sea begins.

Congratulations too to the formidable author-illustrator team of Libby Gleeson and Freya Blackwood, who appear twice in the awards list. Libby has enjoyed two fellowships - one in Canberra in 2004 and one in Adelaide in 2007, while Freya received a mentorship through the Trust in 2003.

We hope you had a great Book Week.

It was wonderful to hear Gretel Killeen on Radio National’s Life Matters describing how books allow young readers “to invest in their own minds and time.”
