Shhhhh… The May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust is holding a SILENT AUCTION

 Five beautiful literary treasures:

 

  • A two-volume (almost new) boxed set - May Gibbs Mother of the Gumnuts. Her Life and Work and May Gibbs Gumnut Classics. The Famous Gumnut Adventures (1985, Angus & Robertson Publishers, North Ryde) by Maureen Walsh

 

May Gibbs is recognised as Australia’s first author and illustrator of Australian children’s books, with her Australian bushland characters, including Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. In the first volume, Margaret Walsh details May’s whole life – from her birth into the comfortable British middle class, to her life in Australia. The second volume includes all eight story books, beautifully presented and illustrated with a full colour plate to begin each story.

  • A framed print of the cover artwork of ‘Kuan Yu,’ Era Publications 1995, (34 cm wide X 45 cm high in a gold frame) written by Kath Lock and illustrated by the late Steven Woolman; Includes a copy of the book

 

 

 

Steven Woolman (1969-2004) studied Design and Illustration at the University of

South Australia, graduating with a Bachelor degree in 1990. He illustrated and

designed books for children’s picture book authors Kath Lock, Jo Croser, Elizabeth

Best, Gary Crew, Dyan Blacklock, Christopher Cheng, Isobelle Carmody and Mark

Svendsen. He produced covers for Ken Katran and Kate Forsythe and wrote and

illustrated his own book, Budgie.

 

Steven had a formidable talent and received numerous awards for his work during

his short lifetime. His books are critically acclaimed in Australia and overseas. His

awards include the CBCA 1995 Picture Book of the Year for The Watertower, and

the International Board on Books Ena Noel Award for his body of work.

 

Steven supported the work of the May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust during its

early days and to acknowledge 10 years since his passing, his estate has

generously donated this original illustration.
